You may have noticed by listening to your coaches at the whiteboard that there is a lot coming up in the next couple of months. There’s a mock Hyrox competition at CrossFit Wildwood, our In-House Throwdown, CrossFit Online Qualifier season, and a “real” Hyrox race in Chicago come November. Remember when Coach Rachel and Amanda competed in DC?
Many of our coaches and members at Achieve have registered for these events – I know I’m doing it all. 😅 That being said, I thought it would be a great opportunity to highlight how even your coaches need coaches to make sure we are progressing and prepared for the next crazy thing we decide to do.
Here’s a breakdown of why having a coach is important:
1. Guidance and Feedback
No matter how experienced you are, it’s nearly impossible to evaluate yourself objectively. A trusted coach can provide constructive feedback on how you’re showing up, where you’re excelling, and what still needs work. Without feedback, it’s easy to assume you’re on the right path or miss opportunities to grow. Mastery is a lifelong journey, and it’s one best traveled with a team.
2. Avoiding Stagnation
Hitting plateaus is part of every single fitness journey, and coaches are no exception. There are seasons when I’ve felt stuck, like I wasn’t improving in any one area and motivation waned. Being able to lean on a coach in those moments can help pull you out of it.
3. Accountability and Motivation
A goal without a plan or any level of accountability is really just a wish. Knowing that someone is expecting progress from you can keep you motivated to show up. This forces you to be honest about your true level of effort and encourages transparency with where you may be struggling.
4. Identifying Blind Spots
We all have areas we can’t see clearly. Habits, tendencies, or weaknesses we don’t even recognize could be the thing holding us back. Sometimes the smallest adjustments from a coach lead to the biggest breakthroughs, but you can’t make those changes if you don’t know where to look.
5. Practicing What We Preach
Leading by example is one of our Core Values for a reason! If we consistently encourage you all to improve your nutrition, train consistently, or step out of your comfort zones, we should be doing the same. I know signing up for my first Hyrox was a big step outside my comfort zone, and I’m proud for finally getting taking the leap.
6. Raising the Standard for Everyone
When coaches invest in coaching, everybody wins. You all benefit immensely from better, more knowledgeable, more inspired leaders.
Final thoughts
At the end of the day, coaching is about being in service to others. The better we understand ourselves, the better we can apply that knowledge to help all of you. If you ever find yourself thinking that we have it all figured out, think again. But you can bet on us to make sure we have a trusted coach to teach us all about what we are missing or the holes in our game. If you are noticing that you’re feeling stuck or unsure of what to focus on next, reach out to a coach! We are always happy to point you in the right direction. ☺️
